Music... do you make it or do you listen to it? It is frequently mixed up with me, yet I can say it definitely: both. And it is good that way!
| To hear | To do |
| Classical or jazz music could never really find the key to my heart. I respect it, sometimes it is nice to hear, but only temporarily. Rock, pop, blues and all kinds of variations do mean much more to me. | I never had a true musical education, the music lessons at school
interested me at most moderate. Somewhen it became stylish to play guitar. I could not remove from that - well, luckily! Different from the most of my friends of those days I still play. But I still cannot read the notes. |
| My record collection (may the discs be black or silver, it's just important what's on it) reflects my personal history with a high portion of music form the 70's and 80'. But I remain open to something new also - which funnily sometimes leads to 70's or 80's music new for me. | Following my sense of music, consequently I did not choose the classic guitar. No, it had to be that special sound: after the first acoustic guitar soon followed my first electric guitar: a Gibson Les Paul which still is my favourite. |
| I cannot tell exactly, how large my collection has become in the meantime;
somewhen I stopped counting. Anybody who wants may do that for me and tell me the result. There will
be a warm handshake as reward. Just like the history of pop itself, my collection has its heights and depths; with the latter I am able to stay cool now. Old hated imaginations from the past are now not much more than nothing to me. |
It was inevitable to come together with like-mindeds - the electric guitar
is no instrument to play alone. We played live and recorded our own music. A tough ambition was missing, though, a contract or such a thing was simply no realistic option. Who knows what could have been... |
| In a musical point of view, the end of the 80's ahd been a real bottom; in this time I stopped listening to the radio - and look, now I really don't need it anymore. There are so much good CDs to buy without it - I just have to admit it's bad for the limited space... | At the latest with starting jobs after finishing studies the old friends were scattered
to all directions. With that of course band and music projects too. Well, you don't have that much time anymore.
And despite of internet connections with quasi no loss of time, musical projects over distance are terribly time-consuming, so that these are more a patched-up solution than an useful option. |
| Unfortunately, This problem not really solvable. But since my removal
to Düsseldorf I have a larger dwelling. ;-) Well, I have to face it: it could be bigger... |
Certainly, frequent removals are not the best possibility for gaining a foothold in the local music scene. Well, so lonely working in the back room again? |
| Making it more difficult, I got used to visit the music shops in foreign countries to listen to the local music. Again and again, I discover wonderful diamonds I never would have heard otherwise, apart from the few international top acts who get it sometimes. Almost inevitable that these are not always the best... | And just how it is: if you don't think of it anymore, it happens. I really
just wanted to improve my rather modest bass playing talents with a course here in Düsseldorf.
And somehow it came that I was standing there with two lads; maybe we could, together... well bingo! Three bass players - strange combination actually. When they discoverd my guitar knowledge then, my role was immediately redefined. Biggest problem of course: the name. I still prefer the Merry Dilettantes! Well, we'll see. At the latest for the planned gig in autumn this problem should be solved. |
